A Few Players In Trouble in the NFL

There are a few players in the NFL who are in trouble with the league because of violations of the substance abuse policy. This is true at almost any time in the league, but it is important to notice these things if you are a fantasy sports owner. You may have these players on your roster, and that can cause problems if you do not have a suitable backup to substitute in.

Two players that are currently facing league issues are LeGarrette Blount and Le’Veon Bell. Both players were suspended for a number of games (1 game in Blount’s case and 3 games in Bell’s) because of substance abuse violations. Blount was suspended by the league because of marijuana abuse and Bell faced penalties for a DUI and a marijuana related incident. Bell has appealed his case in the hopes of getting a reduced suspension. Most consider this outcome unlikely.

There are seemingly always at least a few players who are guilty of having some issue that goes against league policy at any given time. It is up to the fantasy players to figure out which players are in trouble with the league at any given time and make sure they are not attempting to start those players. It is always a smart idea to have a backup plan in case your players end up in trouble like this.

A good rule of thumb is that if a player has been in trouble with the league before for substance abuse, you can be sure that they will probably fall into that same trap again at some point. Adjust for this and perhaps draft fewer players who have been in this type of trouble in the past.
