A Hockey Goalie In A Slump Can Prove To Be Trouble

Every fantasy NHL player knows better than to just trust their gut when it comes to playing the fantasy game that they love so much. Rather, they have to go full boar into finding the right picks, and just as importantly losing the bad ones. One type of player to get rid of is a slumping goal. That was what Frederik Andersen was for the Anaheim Ducks in their recent loss to the Dallas Stars.

Andersen made 28 saves, which may not sound all that bad until you consider the 4 goals that he let in. Anaheim took at 4-0 loss on the chin and was booed off of their home ice. It was an embarrassing performance for the team, and the goalie is sure to be shaking off some cob webs after that one. Psychologically you have to wonder where he is at after a performance like that. It is perhaps best to consider benching him for a while or perhaps even trading him away.

On the flip side of the same game, the Dallas Stars goalie Jhonas Enroth only made 19 saves in the whole game. However, the fact that he managed to shut out the competition was more than enough to make up for what amounts to some pretty low save totals. This is the kind of head to head matchup that you want to pay attention to. The Anaheim goalie is likely going through a slump right now that you do not want to be a part of. The Dallas goalie by contrast appears to be doing pretty well.

Both goalies may be somewhat at the mercy of how well the rest of their team played defensively. However, the psychology of letting a lot of goals in or shutting out an opponent can certainly play a role in motivation and future performance.
