Fantasy NBA is Back, and Here’s the First Outlook

While Fantasy Football garners all the headlines, Fantasy NBA has a hardcore set of fans in its own right. For these fans, and others interested in playing daily Fantasy NBA, October 27th is an important day, as it marks the start of the NBA season! The following is a preview of day 1 of the 2015-2016, Fantasy NBA season.

The 2015-2016 NBA season/Fantasy NBA season kicks off with 3 games. The Detroit Pistons head to Atlanta to face the Hawks, the defending Eastern Conference Champion, Cleveland Cavaliers head to Chicago to take on the Bulls, and the defending champion Golden State Warriors play host to the New Orleans Pelicans. From a fantasy standpoint the matchups can best be analyzed as follows.

Detroit at Atlanta

For Detroit, there are two players to think about on Day 1 of Fantasy NBA. Center Andre Drummond is a double-double machine, and should garner his share of numbers going up against the Hawks despite the strong defensive presence of forwards Paul Millsap and Al Horford. Guard Reggie Jackson is the other solid option for Detroit as Hawks’ guard Jeff Teague is not known for his defensive prowess.

For Atlanta, the aforementioned combo of Millsap and Horford both typically put up strong fantasy numbers in regard to points and rebounds. DeMarre Carroll’s departure for Toronto should guarantee both significant minutes to accrue important statistics. Point Guard, Jeff Teague is also a solid guard option should Jackson or one of the Golden State Warriors prove too expensive under the salary cap format.

Cleveland at Chicago

While they are a championship caliber team in the real NBA, beyond LeBron James, Cleveland is somewhat limited in regard to Fantasy NBA. Should one choose to spend their money in this manner, James is a solid choice against Chicago. Beyond him players such as Tristan Thompson, JR Smith, and even Kyrie Irving are too inconsistent especially against teams like Chicago to garner fantasy consideration.

While players such as Pau Gasol, Taj Gibson, and even Derrick Rose had their strong Fantasy Moments in 2014-2015, the only Bull who consistently delivers in the world of Fantasy is Guard/Forward Jimmy Butler. While Butler might be shadowed by LeBron against the Cavs, he should put up solid numbers in the season opener.

New Orleans at Golden State

Perhaps the most relevant matchup of the night, in regard to Fantasy. Anthony Davis, Steph Curry, and Klay Thompson should all put up strong numbers in the season opener and are must drafts for night one.
