Favorable Week 5 Fantasy Football Running Backs

Two weeks ago, we saw eight running backs hit 20 or more ESPN standard scoring fantasy points, which I doubt we see again anytime soon. Last week, it was 5, the second most so far this season when it comes to 20+ point performances from our beloved RBs. A common name we are seeing every week on this list is Falcon’s stud, Devonta Freeman who went for another 3 TDs on just 14 carries. Should we expect that again? Points again are going to tell you he won’t respond. He is playing against the Washington defensive front that has given up 1 TD to opposing running backs and never once 100 yards. But the Falcon’s offense is killing it through the air too, which will help the run game opening up but I think there are better options this week. Forewarning, the big named players do appear to have great match-ups this week, so don’t expect to find any steals in this article.

Jamaal Charles (FD: $9,100 DK: $7,800) VS Chicago

The Bear’s defense is not great, they’re not as bad as many people believe but by no means are they a formidable opponent for the best dual-threat back so far this season. In ESPN Standard Scoring leagues, the Bears have given up double digit points to every backfield so far this season. That DK price above is very appealing for Jamaal.

Le’Veon Bell (FD: $9,000 DK: $8,500) @ San Diego

Guess whose given up the second most fantasy points to backfields this season? The Chargers! Sure, it’s only 4 games into the season but man I think Le”veon does his thing on Monday night football this week. Do we really think Mike Vick is going to throw it that often? I sure don’t and if he does, Le’Veon will be his check-down multiple times on Monday.

Justin Forsett (FD: $7,200 DK: $5,800) VS Cleveland

Bounce back last week? Yes sir! Ranked 24th in the league against running backs, the Browns will need to show me something before then if I trust them to contain Forsett. He went off on a solid Pittsburgh defense last week and he will be well rested this week. Expect him to be solid in the air this week as well.

TJ Yeldon (FD: $6,600 DK: $ 4,400) @ Tampa Bay

Yeldon finally broke 100 yards last week, against an okay run defense in the Colts, 19th in the league against running backs. Tampa Bay has given up at least a rushing TD in all the games but one so far and I expect the Jags to be competitive in this game as well. He should play all 3 downs and be a threat everywhere on the field.
