The First Week of Injury Replacements

Every week in the NFL, injuries occur. From a fantasy perspective, this can either be dreadful for you season long league players but for weekly players, it provides a few few weeks from cheaper replacement options that have the ability to put starter level numbers up. Week one in the NFL saw a few notable injuries to a few starters. Here we will go over a few of the injuries and the players who could benefit from getting some more time.

The most notable injury of the weekend was hands down Dez Bryant of the Cowboys. He broke a bone in his foot on Sunday night against the Giants, reports are saying that it could be anywhere from 4-8 weeks. About an hour before this was written, Brice Butler of the Raiders was traded to the Cowboys in exchange for a conditional pick. Replacement options for Bryant include Terrance Williams, Miles Austin, Devin Street, Cole Beasley and the newly acquired Butler. I would look at Williams and Beasley as the best options. In that order.

Andre Ellington of the Arizona Cardinals also looks like he will be on the shelf for a few weeks with a PCL injury. In the meantime, former Titan and Jet, Chris Johnson looks like he will be the starter this week against the Bears. Going for $5,7000 this week, he has decent value. Also, look for Rookie David Johnson from UNI to be in the mix as well, he played 5 snaps on Sunday and took his one touch to the house for a 55 yard TD.

The Colts look they will also lose top receiver, TY Hilton for a week or two as well. He is dealing with a knee bruise and the Colts will take their time with the young receiver. I like Donte Moncrief to be the the best replacement at $6,000 this week to be the recipient of the targets (which Hilton had 14).

DeSean Jackson looks like he pulled a hamstring this weekend which may leave him on the sidelines for three-four weeks. Pierre Garcon will benefit the most, this week he is $5,400 which is very affordable and I do expect the Skins’ to be down in this game forcing them to throw the ball a ton.

Another injury that occurred on the offensive side of the ball this weekend include Brown’s starter Josh McCown who dove toward the end-zone and helicoptered his way to a concussion and a fumble on the goal line. Johnny Manziel took over after McCown threw only eight passes. Manziel came in and went 13-24 for 182 yards, a TD and an interception. He also fumbled twice but was under pressure all day from the Jet’s strong defensive front. Cleveland is home against Tennessee this weekend and right now, Coach Pettine said they’re planning on Manziel being the guy and will re-evaluate who starts when McCown gets cleared from the NFL’s concussion protocol. Manziel’s price is $6,500 this week and if he can get his feet into the game, he could play well for the price.
