Top Round Fantasy Busts

Top Round Busts

Every year before our season long drafts, many fantasy gamers will check the rankings at each position, look at depth charts and run through some mock drafts just to test their skills and see if things would shake out how they were hoping. At the same time, a few of these players we see taken in the first round or two seemingly always bust and ruin a few folks rosters. This year is no different thus far, a few of the players taken in the top 2 rounds consistently have imploded causing fantasy players to pull their hair out and look elsewhere for solutions.

CJ Anderson

The bust of all busts this season. In ESPN leagues this year, CJ Anderson had an average draft position (ADP) of 11th overall. Through 3 games this season he has put up a whopping 6 ESPN fantasy points combined and has yet to come close to seeing the end-zone. His backup, Ronnie Hillman has been more effective and is inching toward stealing some more carries from CJ. I am ready to chalk CJ up to a bust right now but I am sure he will see the end-zone sooner or later. I don’t expect it to be this weekend against a solid Vikings run defense.

DeMarco Murray

Having an ESPN ADP of 10th overall in ESPN leagues this season, DeMarco Murray has been a massive disappointment thus far. In week one, he touched the end-zone but he carried 8 times for 9 yards. In week two, he carried the ball 13 times for 2 (yes, 2) yards and in week three he was hurt. He has been active in the receiving game from the backfield but he not nearly enough to justify his 10th overall ADP. What isn’t helping his cause is that when he sat out last week, his back-up, Ryan Mathews rushed for 108 yards and added a TD through the air for 16 ESPN standard fantasy points. Be weary of DeMarco.

Calvin Johnson

I don’t expect him to be kept off the score sheet every week but so far this season, Megatron doesn’t look like his old self. Managing just 24 total fantasy points thus far, it is tough to justify his 20.3 ADP. The Lions have looked awful in the first 3 weeks and I think they will continue to be poor and we will see Calvin have a massive drop in production from last year. He is still worth a roster spot in every format but temper your expectations.

Justin Forsett **Note – was a tad better on TNF

Talk about an awful start. Last week’s 10 carry, 13 yard performance was the least amount of yards gained on ten carries in over a decade. I had huge expectations for Forsett this year. With a running back friendly offensive coordinator and Forsett exploding into the top ten last season, it is hard to not consider him a bust after 3 weeks. His ESPN ADP was 42.5, which isn’t crazy high but we definitely expected more than 12 ESPN standard points.

Poor Starts But Turning it Around

  • Marshawn Lynch (ADP: 7.1)
  • Jeremy Hill (ADP: 19.8) **Note – he did have a pretty nice performance yesterday
  • Andrew Luck (ADP: 17)
  • TY Hilton (ADP: 29.6)
  • Lamar Miller (ADP: 37.1)
